Ad damnum clause, Addendum, Additur, Adduce, Ademption

Ad damnum clause n. A statement in the complaint in a civil action that specifies the amount of money sought by the plaintiff.

Addendum n. An addition to a document.

Additur n. Latin. It is added to. A trial court's order to increase the damages awarded by a jury. It is done to prevent the plaintiff from appealing on the grounds that inadequate damages were awarded, but the court cannot issue the order without the defendant's consent.

Adduce v. To compile or offer, generally in the context of introducing evidence at trial.

Ademption n. The reduction, extinction, or withdrawal of a devise or legacy by some act of the testator, before his or her death, that clearly indicates an intent to diminish or revoke it.
